Understanding Lot Tracking in Luminous

Lot tracking is a critical component of inventory management, especially for businesses dealing with perishable goods, regulated products, or complex manufacturing processes. Luminous offers a robust lot tracking solution that empowers you to maintain accurate inventory records and ensure product traceability.

Enabling Lot Tracking

Lot tracking is turned on at a product level. Whether it's raw materials or finished goods, you can easily enable it. Here's how:

1. Go to Product Settings
   
2. Put a check on the box to enable Lot Tracking
   
3. Save Changes

When Can a Lot Be Applied?

There are three main areas where lot tracking can be utilized:

1. During Manufacturing

While performing a work order or assembly order in Luminous, you can apply a lot. Here's the process:

• Deplete Specific Lots: When pulling raw materials, deplete specific lots in your work orders.
  
• Assign Lots to Finished Goods: Once the work order is complete, assign a lot to the batch of products manufactured.

2. During Purchasing

When you purchase raw materials or finished goods, lot tracking can be applied. Here’s how:

• Purchase Order Page: Enable lot tracking for your purchased items.
• Apply Lots: Apply lots one at a time or in bulk at the line item view. Luminous can auto-apply a lot number, or you can create one with a production date and expiration date.

3. During Receiving

Lot tracking can also be applied when you receive products. By pulling up a PO, you can apply lots either line item by line item or in bulk, as long as lot tracking is enabled.

Displaying Lots

To view your active lots or layers, Luminous provides a Cost Layers Report that shows all active lots, their respective valuation, total cost, and total inventory quantity.

Lot Tracking in Pick and Pack

If you have lot tracking enabled for a SKU and have enabled pick and pack for your warehouse, you’ll need to reference a lot number whenever depleting in a pick list.
